Questions about Yoga

Frequently asked questions

When will the classes take place

When the club opens we will take a poll of all members to find out which day and time works for the majority of members, and go with the one that most people can attend.

How can you teach Yoga online?

We will meet weekly on Zoom, a video conferencing app. We will go through the class together.

Do I need to register before attending a class?

You will need to be a member, but once you are in the club, you will be automatically sent the link for the class each week. It will be up to you if you attend live or if you watch the recording later (you are of course, welcome to do both!)

What should I wear to class?

You will need to wear something loose and easy to stretch in. Jeans, skirts and tight waistbands are not suitable. However, one of the great joys of this club is that you will be at home, so can wear what you want. You certainly don’t need to go out and buy expensive ‘yoga kit’, there really is no need for this at all, not even if you are attending in person classes.

Do I need to have my own yoga mat?

A mat is a very useful accessory, but if you are new to the practice and aren’t sure if you want to spend money on a mat just yet, you can try a few sessions on carpet and see if you like it before splashing out on a mat. If you do want to buy a mat, make sure that you are getting a thin sticky mat such as these from Yoga Bliss.

How much space do I need to practice at home?

You don’t need to allocate a lot of space to your Yoga practice. A space that is big enough for you to lie down on your back with your arms out to the side will be big enough to allow you the full range of movement necessary for the practice. Try to ensure that the area is reasonably free of clutter as this will distract your focus during the class, and of course, ensure that there is space for your device so you can watch the class.

Should I eat before class?

Try to avoid eating anything for an hour before practice, and avoid big meals for 2 hours before if possible. Some of the postures can become very uncomfortable with a full stomach.

Can I do yoga if I am pregnant?

Yoga is very beneficial for pregnancy. If you are pregnant please let me know so that I can include adaptations of the postures for you.

How is yoga different from other kinds of fitness?

Donec tincidunt augue non lorem vehicula, et gravida leo ultrices. Pellentesque porta, nulla sed dignissim interdum, lorem erat gravida nulla, eget egestas quam libero lobortis nibh.
